About Bates

It all started with men's dress shoes. In 1885 Bates Shoe Company was just a tiny dress footwear manufacturer. More than seven decades later, the company narrowed its focus to create a uniform dress shoe specifically for the U.S. Navy. From there, its uniform footwear line exploded onto the market. Good boot for all conditions

Used these for camping in the Poconos; survived mud, rain, and snow (8") all in one weekend (and now the Northeast Great Blackout of 2011). Ordered 8.5, regular width and fit fine (I typically wear 8.5 Pumas or Adidas). Good with winter socks. Did find the ankle bone rubbed the first 24 hrs of wear. Once broken in after that these are perfect. No complaints here.

Boot width not extra wide as ordered. It says extra wide but its not. The reinforcing seam for the laces rubs the ankle bone and is killer. Still trying to break them in but can only wear the for an hour before I am crippled up.

I have a hard time finding shoes that fit right and this is the one excellent fit and comfortable after all day.
